[Q&A] |
Frequently asked questions are listed below. |
Q.
After requesting ablation, how long does it take before hospitalization?
|
A.
Five doctors are capable of performing ablation in our hospital, and we treat 15-25 patients per week. Atrial fibrillation ablation can be performed within a couple of weeks after the first diagnosis. Ablation can be performed within a week for other types of paroxysmal tachycardia.
|
Q.
How long is the duration of hospitalization?
|
A.
5 days and 4 nights for atrial fibrillation ablation and 3 days and 2 nights for other types of arrhythmia. (Depending on the patient’s schedule, the duration of hospitalization can be as short as 2 days and 1 night). |
Q.
Why is anticoagulant warfarin discontinued immediately before hospitalization? |
A. In case of a complication (e.g., cardiac tamponade) during surgery, we would not be able to stop hemorrhaging if warfarin was still effective in the bloodstream.
|
Q.
Doesn’t the discontinuation of warfarin immediately before hospitalization cause cerebral infarction?
|
A.
No, because we prevent blood coagulation with an injection of heparin. |
