The patient’s portion of the hospitalization fee is about half a million yen, or approximately  30% of the entire fee.  (Most heath insurance organizations in Japan pay approximately 70% of the total fee.). 
Depending on the health insurance policy, the patient  may be able to apply for benefits to help pay for the high cost of medical care. .  If the application is accepted,  out-of-pocket medical costs can be expected to be about ¥100,000-150,000. This amount includes only medical care costs covered by health insurance and  does not include the cost of meals, etc.
